Black Van is Kris Menace and KoweSix (one half of Moonbootica). Accoring to their MySpace page, the Black Van project takes the guys' shared love of early electronica and disco to the next level by exploring the possibilities of analog perfection and introducing classic songwriting from some of the best indie vocalists from USA and Europe. Sounds promising!
Apparently, James Murphy loved Kris Menace's remix of LCD Soundsystem's North American Scum so much that he released Black Van's first single Yearning this week on his DFA label. The release also includes a great remix by Emperor Machine. Based on the sound of Yearning, this should be an exciging side project. At RAW, our taste for SHIT runs the gamut. Dirty electro. Classic and campy disco. Early industrial EBM, Tranny-queen house music. Soul fusion funk. Whatever! As long as it sounds good and has passion, we'll give it a go. So today we're flushing the themed-SHIT and just giving you a healthy dose of musical laxatives. Never been to one of our parties? First up, Gaggle, a dubstep-influenced, 22-member all-girl alt-choir outta London. Kids, these broads are fucking nuts, and RAW loves crazy chicks with A.D.D. and potty mouths. Gaggle sounds like someone slipped the Pussycat Dolls a hit of acid, put them in a room with an amphetamine-charged Spice Girl, then Gang Gang Dance dropped by with a couple vials of ketamine. Next up is Ruf Dug, a 99 year old band?/person?/human? with little information surrounding them. Oooohhh! Mystery. RAW likes mystery as much as we like free beer and slutty dudes. Ruf Dug's SHIT is a little bit disco, a little bit rock and roll, and sprayed with a hearty dose of distortion and vinyl-sounding fuzz. The continuous beat is perfect for a transition while on the 1s and 2s, a completely instrumental track with glorious old-school hi hat swipes towards the end that drift into a looped electronic stutter. We're very excited about DJ and Production duo, MUSTANG (Renaud Deru and Andy Faisca), straight outta Brussels. They're already creating a stir in the SHIT pot with their four-song EP, Chameleon Circus and being dubbed "the new Aeroplane." Rightfully so! Their EP is a sonic journey through space on a carpet woven with hints of of both classic and Italo-disco, glorified pop, and subtle strands of funk and classical tones. We got hold of the MUSTANG EP over the weekend and it's been on repeat ever since. A cosmic landscape of intricate arpeggios and delicate song structure. You'll notice an impeccable balance of live instrumentation and classic house influence. It's the kinda SHIT you can throw on at any time, whether you're washing the dishes, driving through a dead-end town at 3am, or sitting in your room getting lifted as the snow swallows all that surrounds you.

We like the C90s. We like that they appreciate a good handclap or cowbell as much as we do. We're digging their new single, 10:01 out March 5 on Relish Recordings featuring a new vocal version, radio edit, and remix by Villa, followed by an assortment of new material in 2010. We're excited to see what 2010 brings for the duo of Jamie Paterson and Danny Ashenden. If we happened to be in Milan or Zurich, we'd go see them live. But we're not, so we'll just have to settle for listening to their SHIT. We hope you like their SHIT as much as we do. Plus a little Bow Wow Wow in honor of the C90s.
