HOT SUMMER IN THE CITY
This past Friday at our RAW party, the air was thick, the sex was hot, and the Green Lantern was a steaming celebration of disco, men, and sexual anticipation. With the sweltering DC summer settling completely upon us, I wanted to share some of my favorite hot-summer jams. DARKLORD DISCO (aka Ryan T) lives in Philly and is one-half of Kung Fu Neckties' only weekly cosmic disco and cosmic rock party—ROBOTIQUE (which is one of RAW's fav parties too, so go and check it out). When I asked him about his song Outrun the Heat, this is what he has to say, "The song is a very simple edit of a tune called Speed Racer by Lu Janis...an elusive character, indeed...although really short (just under three minutes), the original song is pretty perfect, as is. So I don't consider it to be much of a re-working, but rather a version." If you're in DC, be sure to catch Ryan T and Billy W of ROBOTIQUE on Wednesday, August 18, at U Street Music Hall, as they navigate THE WHALE towards the deep end of cosmic disco. I also picked out a hot mix of the Shirley Lite classic, Heat You Up (To Melt You Down). It's perfect for a daytime BBQ or a late-night galactic journey. Follow that with one of the slickest italo-disco, new wave influenced jams to come outta the 80's; replete with a stabbing bassline, drum machines and deep-tinted vocal chants—Fokewulf 190. This song will heat you up and have your feet tapping to the beat before you even know it, a sure-fire chugger that will beckon your fingers to press repeat. Can't wait for the next RAW in August? Catch the RAW DJs—Bil & Shea—spinning this Sunday, July 11, from 7–9 PM at Local 16 (1601 U Street NW) when The Pocket Gays present Oh Thank Heaven! Sunday School.
